Glenmac Farmstay is located close to Kurow and Duntroon, and is part of the lower Waitaki Valley, which is a popular holiday area for New Zealand families due to the long, hot summer days and relaxed, countryside environment.

Located in the township of Duntroon in the Waitaki Valley, the Vanished World Centre showcases the amazing and interesting fossil heritage of the area. Exhibits are designed to inform visitors with a geological time frame in New Zealand’s history.

Buy a copy of the purpose-designed Vanished World Fossil Trail Brochure from venues in Dunedin, Oamaru, Duntroon and Kurow before setting out to discover the localities along the Otago coast and inland. Great photograph opportunities to view ancient limestone landscapes and coastal seascape sculptures eroded from volcanic rock and limestone. Guided tours are also available.
High Country Horse Treks
For an awesome high country farm experience take a guided horse trek with Kaye or Keith on their stunning high country farm in Kurow. Experienced trekking guides accommodate riders of all abilities and experience from 1 hour guided horse rides to horse trekking packages that include overnight accommodation. Kurow Heritage Trail
This walk takes approximately 1 hour and provides you with an opportunity to view historic buildings including the first Kurow school house which was built in 1882, the old Doctor’s Residence, the Kurow Hotel (built in 1880) and other fabulous old time buildings.
Waitaki River Boating & Fishing
Join an experienced fishing guide and try your hand at fresh water fishing in the Waitaki dam or river mouth. Test your skills against the mighty Waitaki salmon or Rainbow and Brown Trout. For a bit more adrenalin you can climb on board with Waitaki Jet Boat Rides and enjoy a fast, exhilarating and fun jet boat ride on the Waitaki River. Ohau Ski Field
Ohau ski field is high country skiing and snowboarding at it’s best! Serviced by a double chairlift, a platter and a snow mat, while the main trails are groomed regularly during the winter ski season. Great skiing and snowboarding for learners through to experts, including an area for children and beginners. Even non-skiers will relish the views from the 9.6km access road as you gaze up the valley to Mount Cook and over the lake.

Take a short drive to Omarama and enjoy a truly magical scenic flight in a modern glider with an experienced professional instructor.
